personality
Silent. Astrid is a woman of few words.
Assertive. She knows when to stand up for herself and she isn’t afraid to do it.
Methodical. She pays close attention to things, especially her work. She needs to be methodical to guide a ship towards land.
Introverted. She’d much rather spend time by herself than with a group of other people.
Ascetic. She has great self discipline, and can even deprive herself of what she knows she needs if she really needed or wanted to.
Solemn. Astrid is very serious and dignified.
Amoral. She has no problem doing what other's can't. As she’d say, there has to be someone who can to do the dirty work.
Unrepentant. She feels no regret for anything wrong that she’s done, and she never will. To her, it was a job that simply just had to be done.
Grim. She gives no compromise, and she is very stern in the way she handles things.
Apathetic. She generally does not have a care about anything, and often drifts around in life. The exception is her friend, Aspen Theodosia who she'd gladly lay her life down for in order to save. She cares deeply for her.
Determined. She doesn't let anything stop her from achieving her goals. Not even Aspen.
Courage. She isn't one to back down from a situation just because it makes her nervous.

biography
She grew up poor, and was treated that way as well. She didn't have much of an education, and instead served as a maid to wealthy family to help her family survive. She started working as maid from a young age, around 12. While the family and other maids and servants treated her poorly, there was one person in the family that didn't. Aspen Theodosia. Aspen is two years older than her, and has the heart of a saint. When she wasn't working, she often was spending time with Aspen. That continued as she grew older, and the two are still together to this day. She never once asserted herself over the people that treated her bad, just so she could keep the job. She needed the money, and they let her stay at their place. And it was a nice place. Aspen worked on teaching her how to read, write and do mathematical calculations. Astrid did well, as she was a quick learner.
At the age of 14, she grew fascinated with pirates. She loved how free, how ruthless and how rowdy they were. It's exactly the kind of life style she wanted. Aspen wasn't so big on the idea, and was worried about her getting hurt, or worse, killed. But she knew there was no stopping her. Astrid had had even told her this in the firmest but gentlest way she could. Later that year, her parents had died in a house fire, and she was stuck with being a maid to survive, much to her dismay. Aspen spent close time with her during this time, comforting her in her time of need.
Age 17, she got her chance to join up with a crew of pirates. The Doppelgangers. They were a relatively new gang of pirates, and they were looking around to see who had the guts to be a pirate. They disguised themselves in with the population, to observe and go after those who had the potential to be one. Astrid was one of them, with her daring, self-confident personality she they decided she'd make a damn good pirate. They approached her and challenged her to a fight. Being a maid most of her life and not a street brawler or street urchin, she did poorly. But she did not give up. They liked that about her, they liked her moxie. They asked her to come to the docks that night.
And she did. She brought Aspen with her as well. Aspen didn't want her to go alone. If she was going to go through with this, Aspen said she'd be going through with it too. At first, they weren't willing to accept Aspen since they've already seen how she was like from observing her a few days ago. But Astrid was willing to put up a fight. Once again impressed with her moxie, they'd let Aspen in on the crew. But she was to be her responsibility. If she got hurt, it wouldn't be on any of them. If she didn't learn how to fight, that was on her. If she got picked on for being "weak" that was on her.
After staying there for two more months, looking for recruits, they finally took sail to he seas. She started learning the ropes after they set sail, and it took her three years to finally become a mate. Another two years went by, and she's been able to show off her skills at the helm. They didn't actually have a sailing master at the time, so they decided to make her their official sailing master. Her and Aspen have been out on the seas for six years now. She's been working on her illusion abilities throughout those six years, but it's nothing extraordinary. Her skill of decoy creation allows her to make a decoy of herself that'll disappear as soon as it's touched.
